Increase Pattern by 200%

For 11” x 14” tray

Preparation

Wipe surface of tray with paper towel to remove dust or wood particles. Prime the tray surface and

sides with one or two coats of paint. Enlarge teapot pattern to fit tray. Place carbon paper (carbon side

down) in center of tray and place pattern directly over carbon paper, secure with tape. Trace pattern

with pencil, making sure design is transferred to the tray. Remove paper and pattern, if necessary,

darken pattern outline with a Sharpie™ marker.

Teapot Mosaic

Nip Purple Stained Glass Chips into quarters or 3/8” squares and arrange the glass on the pattern,

using photo as a guide. Leave approximately 1/16” space between glass pieces. To fit glass squares

to the edge of the teapot pattern, round one corner of the square using a nipper. Create teapot bands

by alternating yellow and purple glass nipped into approximately 3/16” squares. When teapot pattern

is complete, lift each piece of glass and apply a thin layer of glue to the back. Push glass firmly in to

place to ensure a tight bond.

Background

Vintage tile is pre-broken into various sizes. Starting with the larger pieces, nip and arrange on tray

around the teapot to fill-in the background area. Spacing between pieces should be approximately

1/8”. Smaller pieces can be interspersed to fill in tight areas and to fit around the teapot lines. There

will be a slight height difference between the glass in the teapot and the background tile. Mosaic Tip:

Place Vintage pieces with straight edges along the sides of the tray for a smooth, even line. Once

background tile is positioned, place a small amount of glue on the back of each tile and press firmly

in place. Allow to dry according to glue package direction.

Grouting

Mix grout according to directions. Approximately

one cup of mix is plenty. Apply grout with gloved

hand or spoon, pushing into all spaces between

the tile, glass and the wood edge. Let set 5

minutes and begin wiping off excess grout with a

slightly damp sponge, being careful not to pull the

grout out from the cracks. Create a slight bevel

in the grout between the height of the glass and

Vintage tile. Continue wiping and smoothing until

you have an even surface. Remove any excess

grout that has dried onto the sides of the wooden

tray. Buff with soft cloth and let dry 24 hours.

Finish Painting

Apply a finish coat of paint on all sides of the tray,

touching up along the inside grout line as needed.
